Q1: Full name:

Cameron Pilley

Q2: Nickname:

Cam

Q3: How did you get involved in your sport?

My parents both played squash and would take me to the club when I was a baby.

I was hooked on squash from a very early age, then my parents bought Yamba Squash Club when I was about 10. I was really hooked on the game after that!

Q4: How often do you train a week & when do you get time off during the year?

I will train twice a day 6 days a week, with maybe a half training day on a Wednesday to keep the body fresh.

I will always make sure I have a small mid season break over the Christmas period, but my main break will come around June/July. My season basically runs from August to May.

Q5: Do you have a special routine or superstition before competing?

No, not really. The only thing I may do is if I play well in a tournament and keep on winning, I will tend to eat the same thing every day for the duration of the event.

Q6: Favourite sport – outside of your own?

I grew up playing cricket, golf and surfing so I will always have an interest in those sports.

Although during footy season (NRL – Rabbitohs!) I will follow it closely and try to stream as many games as I can while I’m abroad.

Q7: Do you follow a particular diet?

No, not at all. I just try to keep a balanced diet really. I need to eat a lot as a squash player so I just make sure I’m eating the right things constantly.

Q8: Have you overcome serious injury or other set-backs?

*Touch wood* I’ve been quite lucky throughout my career as I haven’t had any major injuries.

I have had injuries that would keep me out for a couple of weeks, like rolled ankles and small joint problems, but overall I have been fairly injury free.

Q9: What about GC2018 excites you?

A few things excite me about GC2018! I am edging towards the end of my career so this could possibly be my last CWG.

That in itself is motivation enough to do well. But competing in Australia in front of friends and family is what really excites me. It is going to be such a cool event to be a part of.

Q10: One question you get asked too often?

“How did you get into squash?” or “Can you make a living from squash?” They would be the top two!
