Jacob Whetton

Jake Whetton (hockey) has been a mainstay of the national team since Glasgow 2014 where he won the first of three Commonwealth Games gold medals. He has also been part of three World Cup (2014, 2018, 2023) and two Olympic campaigns in Rio 2016 (6th) and Tokyo 2020 (silver).

The Queensland midfielder/forward began playing hockey aged four, following in the footsteps of his parents Tom and Kim in joining local club Eastern Suburbs Tigers in Brisbane. He made his Kookaburras debut against Malaysia in 2011 and was selected in the national development squad ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games but would have to wait another four years before making his Olympic debut. He credits 1976 Olympic silver medal winner Greg Browning as having the strongest influence on his career, while his trademark Zinc cream is a legacy of his admiration for the late Australian cricket star Andrew Symonds.

He and wife Sam are parents to son Felix and daughter Marlee, who choose which colour shoes dad wears on game day.
