CGA welcomes National Sports Plan

Commonwealth Games Australia has welcomed the Federal Government’s announcement of a National Sports Plan.

The Honourable Greg Hunt MP, Minister for Sport, made the announcement yesterday in Canberra, alongside Commonwealth Games Australia CEO Craig Phillips and counterparts from the Australian Olympic and Paralympic Committees.

In making the announcement, Minister Hunt invited all Australian’s to have their say in bringing the National Sports Plan to life, by visiting www.ausport.gov.au/nationalsportsplan.

Commonwealth Games Australia CEO Craig Phillips said he looked forward to working with the Government on the National Sports Plan.

“In the lead up to Gold Coast 2018 we are committed to working closely with all our stakeholders to achieve success,” he said.

“Cooperation and collaboration have never been more important for Australian Sport.

“Our success will be determined by the manner in which organisations like ours, and the sports we represent, collaborate and work together.

“I commend the Government on initiating the National Sports Plan. I look forward to working with the leaders of Australian Sport on the details, and encourage everyone to have their say as part of the consultation process,” Phillips said.

Minister Hunt said a national sporting lottery as well activity to boost participation were amongst the options to be considered in the plan.
