Preparing players for big tournaments is on the program for Suncorp Super Netball teams

Australia’s new Suncorp Super Netball competition kicks off this Saturday night with plenty of fanfare surrounding it.

Retired Diamond and Melbourne Vixens most decorated player Sharelle McMahon, will take her position on the sidelines as Vixens Specialist Coach against the Magpies tomorrow night at Hisense Arena.

Aside from entertainment and innovation, the two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist said a large part of the Suncorp Super Netball program is about working towards being ready for the big tournaments.

“For Netball, the World Cup and Commonwealth Games sit on par,” She said.

“Well prepared athletes who have the ability to handle the big stage, are the sort of things I’d be looking at in Suncorp Super Netball.

“Meticulous preparation to be right to go for the big moments is very crucial”.

Although a huge amount of talent is spread across the eight teams, McMahon said there was still room for up-and-coming players to put their skills on display.

“I think someone to really look out for is Laura Clemesha from the Firebirds, she is someone I’m really looking forward to seeing.

“She has been sitting behind Laura Geitz and Clare McMeniman for a few years now.

“After watching her take the court a few times, I’ve been really impressed with her work in defence,”

“You’ll be seeing quite a bit more of her name as the time goes on”.

The Melbourne derby between Vixens vs Magpies will kick off Saturday 18 February, 7pm at Hisense Arena.
