Henry Frayne
Henry Frayne (athletics) returns for his third consecutive Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022. A three-time Olympian and Gold Coast 2018 silver medallist in the men’s long jump, Frayne competed at the London 2012 Olympics in both the triple jump and long jump, the nephew of 1984 Los Angeles Olympian Bruce Frayne will look to unearth something special at Birmingham. Frayne established himself as the number 4 Australian all-time record holder in the long jump, having set a PB and Commonwealth Games record of 8.34m in the qualifying round of Gold Coast 2018, going on to win the silver medal. Declaring his retirement following the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Frayne took five months away from the sport, before realising his hunger to once again jump eight metres. With two wins on the European circuit under his belt in 2022, including an 8.10m at ATLETICAGENEVE in June, the ‘Frayne train’ is all stations go until Birmingham. Currently coached by Gary Bourne at the Queensland Academy of Sport, expect the South Australian native to be a much-loved competitor at Birmingham. Frayne has bachelor’s degrees in law and commerce, having made the 2020/21 Dean’s List at the Queensland University of Technology. Alongside his legal studies, Frayne did an internship at King & Wood Mallesons and clerked at Minter Ellison.
