Gretel Bueta
Gretel Bueta (netball) was formidable in the goal circle for the Diamonds throughout their gold-medal winning campaign at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, scoring 253 goals across the tournament with 96 per cent shooting accuracy. Gretel represented Australia in basketball at three Junior World Championships in 2009, 2010 and 2011 before joining the AIS in the Women’s National Basketball League for the 2010/11 season. In March 2012, she made the switch to netball, joining the Queensland Firebirds the following year and was selected for the World Youth Championships in Glasgow, gaining a silver medal. Bueta spent a season at the NSW Swifts where she finally made her ANZ Championships debut, before re-joining the Firebirds in 2015. Bueta made her Diamonds debut October 2015 against England, but really secured her spot in the Australian squad in 2018/19 season after being selected for the Super Netball Team of the Year in 2018 and 2019 and winning the Liz Ellis Diamond Award as the best player in Australian domestic and international competition.
