Gymnastics was held as a demonstration sport in 1974 and officially included in the 1978 Games in Edmonton, Canada. It has been on the program at all the Games since 1990.
Rhythmic Gymnastics made a return to the 2006 program after being dropped in 2002 and featured again in 2014 & 2018.
The governing body for Gymnastics in Australia is the Gymnastics Australia.
