It has been obligatory to hold Race Swimming at every Commonwealth Games. Over the years the Swimming program has changed considerably, with new events added at each Games.
In 2002 Para-Sport events were included in the Games and 2014 & 2018 saw six Para-Sport swimming events in the program.
The governing body for Swimming in Australia is Swimming Australia.
