Jake Harvie
Jake Harvie (hockey) has been part of two Kookaburras’ gold-medal winning campaigns at the Commonwealth Games.
Jake hails from a unique hockey bloodline. His grandfather, Gordon Pearce, was a three-time Olympian whose four brothers Cecil, Mal, Eric and Julian also played on the national team. Jake’s father Russell is a coach while brother Tom plays for Western Australia and is a member of the national development squad.
Raised on a farm at Dardanup south of Perth, Jake’s first hockey club was Boyanup where his talent was quickly noticed as he was selected for state teams from the age of 12. He made his Kookaburras’ debut at the International Festival of Hockey in Bendigo in late 2017, despite not being part of the development squad or the 2016 Junior World Cup team. He impressed with his busy style and was a late addition to the team which triumphed at the World League Final in India, handling the pressure of top opposition well for a teenager. Missing the Tokyo Olympics came as a shock, but it gave him the motivation to train harder.
Jake is studying physiotherapy at Curtin University in Perth.
