Liam Adams

PRINT PAGE

Liam Adams (athletics) just missed the podium in the men’s marathon at his third Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, just seven seconds behind the bronze medallist and an improvement on his 7th place on the streets of Glasgow in 2014 and 5th on the Gold Coast in 2018.

The disappointment of missing qualifying for the London 2012 Olympics in the 10,000m spurred Liam to move up to the marathon where he ran an outstanding 2:14:09 on debut in October 2013 in Melbourne. Since then, he has also competed at three Olympic Games, finishing 31st in Rio, 24th on the streets of Sapporo at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Games (after an Olympic qualifier and PB of 2:10:48 in Japan in March 2020) and 49th in Paris in 2024 in what he described as brutal conditions.

Nicknamed ‘Sledgehammer’, Liam has a Bachelor of exercise science from Victoria University in Melbourne and fits training around his work as an electrician.
