2018 Hancock Prospecting Pan Pacific Championship Trials

The 2018 Hancock Prospecting Pan Pacific Championship Trials opened its first full day Sunday at the SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre in Adelaide, with Australia’s best swimmers fighting for a position on the Pan Pacific Games Australian team.

 

Day 1:

There were two events in Sunday’s line-up, Kiah Melverton opened the five-day trials for August’s Pan Pacs in Tokyo by claiming an upset win in the new women’s event, the 1500m freestyle. Melverton touched the wall in a huge personal best of 15:59.92, well beneath the Pan Pacs qualifying time of 16:20.18.

While 23-year-old Jack McLouglin closed out Mack Horton in the 800m Freestyle to claim victory in the heat.

 

Day 2:

Gold Coast 2018 bronze medallist Liam Schluter became the 200m MC Freestyle Australian Champion followed by silver to Daniel Fox and Bronze to Mitch Kilduff.

Elijah Winnington stole the show in the men’s 200m Freestyle, taking top spot ahead of local legend Kyle Chalmers in just 4/100ths of a second – Alexander Graham came in third.

One of Commonwealth Games Australia’s most decorated athletes, Mitch Larkin couldn’t be caught in the 400m IM and Jess Hansen swim a personal best to take out the 100m Breaststroke.

A blistering swim from another Commonwealth Games champion Lakeisha Patterson, saw her crowned the Women’s MC 400m Freestyle Australian Champion.

The women’s 200m Freestyle winner was Brianna Throssell followed by Mikkayla Sheridan and Emma McKeon in second and third respectively.

 

Day 3:

Commonwealth Games Australia’s oldest team member George Corones continued to smash world records. Corones is now the first 100+ year old to go under one minute in the Short Course 50m Freestyle. His time of 55.75 broke the previous world record by more than 21 seconds.

With sister and Commonwealth Games conqueror Bronte on a break from the sport, Cate Campbell swam 52.61 to win from Emma McKeon (53.25) and training partner Shayna Jack (54.20).

Tim ‘Disko’ Disken took the title in the Men’s 50m Freestyle, Rowan Crothers picked up silver and bronze to Daniel Fox.

In the Men’s 100m Freestyle Jack Cartwright zoomed past Graham Alexander and James Roberts to win with a time of 48.33.

Ellie Cole came out on top in the  Women’s 100m Backstroke Multi-Class final with a time of 1:11.77.

 

Day 4:

Commonwealth Games golden boys Jack McLoughlin and Mack Horton will continue what will be a thrilling showdown of friendly rivalry in the 400m Freestyle in Adelaide tonight.

Also through to the 400m Freestyle final tonight is 1500m winner Kiah Melverton, followed closely by an in form Mikkayla Sheridan.

It will be gameon in the men’s 200m IM final with Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Clyde Lewis the fastest from the heats.

Emma McKeon will be in full flight tonight as she takes on the final of the women’s 100m butterfly.

Plus many more action filled individual and team events.
