Aspen Anderson (QLD) has claimed gold in the Women’s Individual Super Sprint triathlon, pushing through to claim her top of the podium finish in warm conditions at Buccoo Beach. 

Anderson took to the picturesque course for the 375m swim, 10km cycle and 2.5km run to finish with an overall time of 32:53, 24sec ahead of silver medallist Jessica Heaps of Scotland. 

“It was such a great race, it was so fun, and I’ve never raced anything like that before,” Anderson said. 

“It was in a great place too; the whole atmosphere was amazing and to be part of Team Australia is like nothing else.” 

“I really enjoyed it all. We came from the Australian winter to this weather today and it was a bit of a shock to the system, but I think I pulled it off today.” 

Teammate Hannah Pollock (QLD), finished in 7th with a time of 35:40, following consistent splits across all three legs of the race. 

“It was pretty good to get out there and race,” Pollock said.  

“It was very hot and considering the heat, I was happy with the race and will keep working on my improvements.” 

In the Men’s Individual Super Sprint event, Jack Latham (TAS) powered through the run leg of the race to spectacularly claim the bronze medal with a time of 30:38. 

After trailing following the swim and bike legs, Latham dug deep to push forward through the field, crossing the finish line on the way to third. 

“It’s been the best experience ever racing here for the Commonwealth and for my country for the second time,” Latham said. 

“I’ve enjoyed the whole experience here, the weather, the culture, the atmosphere around here has been brilliant.  

It’s been a long trip coming here and it’s been a surreal experience, an eye-opener to see what this side of the world is like and this whole race and the experience has just brought so much joy.” 

“I put a lot into this sport, and it’s all paying off. I’ve got the job done, the medal’s coming back to Australia… what else can you ask for!” 

Oscar Wootton (VIC) joined Latham on the course, finishing in 5th with a time of 31:02. Attention now turns to the Mixed Relay on Tuesday morning.
