Offering an opportunity to gain experience in a sport-oriented environment, Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) is once again accepting applications for the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) eqUIP Program Internship.

The program, which has been providing opportunities for tertiary students since 2014, helps them make positive contributions to their communities through sport, while focusing on applying theoretical knowledge gained through education to real-world situations.

The internship is one that is designed to challenge and grow interns across numerous areas of the workforce, while empowering them to become self-reliant.

Josh Squire, a 2024 eqUIP intern, praised the opportunity as a ‘dream come true,’ highlighting how the program advanced his career through its “diverse range of experiences.”

“I’ll cherish the opportunities I was given during my time here for a lifetime,” said Squire.

“The eqUIP internship offers many valuable experiences, but none more insightful than the eqUIP Intern Conference.”

Held in Nadi, Fiji, the three-day workshop brought together young adults from across Oceania and Asia, providing an eye-opening opportunity for Squire to work alongside peers in similar positions.

“The workshop not only fostered professional growth but also gave us a deeper understanding of how sporting organisations function across the Asia/Oceania region,” he explained.

Squire also credited the conference for sharpening his skills in professional communication, leadership, and goal-setting—skills that have continued to shape his internship experience.

“These lessons will undoubtedly be invaluable as I move forward in my career,” he added. “I can’t recommend this opportunity enough and I encourage anyone interested to give it their best shot when applying.”

The eqUIP Internship Program allows students to develop industry knowledge, experience the sport industry firsthand and enhance the expertise gained during their studies.

This internship position, available for up to eight months and commencing in February 2025, is for current tertiary students undertaking degrees in sport management, business, communications, marketing or similar.

Students who participate in this program will be encouraged to apply the theory they have learnt at university to real life examples, gain industry insights, and develop both personal and professional skills.
