Alec Diamond (athletics) received a last-minute call-up to contest the men’s decathlon at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, replacing Ash Moloney who withdrew due to injury. Diamond finished 5th in the eight-man field.
The Australian Catholic University Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science graduate came into Birmingham off the back of a personal best of 8002 points secured when he finished second at the national championships the previous April.
He also won consecutive medals at the World University Games; silver in 2019 in Naples and bronze in Chengdu in 2023 after being given the honour of carrying Australia’s flag at the opening ceremony as well as four successive men’s NSW decathlon titles between 2021 and 2024.
