Amber Merritt
Amber Merritt (3×3 basketball) was part of Australia’s first Commonwealth Games women’s wheelchair 3×3 basketball team in Birmingham that won the silver medal. After moving from Portsmouth to Perth at the age of 10, Amber was recommended to try basketball by Paralympic Hall of Fame coach Frank Ponta in 2007. The following year, she joined the Perth Western Stars in the Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball League, and by 2013 had captained the team to its first championship. Winning the league MVP award every year from 2011-2018, it was hardly surprising that she received a call-up into the Australian Gliders in only her second year in the sport. The high-scoring forward became one of the most recognisable faces in Australian para sport after claiming silver on Paralympic debut at London 2012 as well a gold medal at the 2013 Osaka Cup, followed by a 9th-place finish at Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Off the basketball court, Merritt is an Assistant Manager at Stateside Sports and is completing a Bachelor of Commerce at Curtin University.
