Angus Armstrong
Angus Armstrong (athletics) is a pole vaulter who will hope to improve on his debut Commonwealth Games performance at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, having finished in 5th place at Gold Coast 2018 (5.35m), behind close friend and eventual gold medallist Kurtis Marschall. A former NSW high jumper, Armstrong became the youngest winner of the Australian title at the 2015 Australian championships, aged 18 years and 10 months. After moving to Perth to train within the highly acclaimed WA Institute of Sport pole vault program, Armstrong’s career reached even greater heights. He became the Oceania and Australian champion in 2019, before finishing 10th at the Naples 2019 Universiade and a PB of 5.65m in March 2020. His training methods include jumps, sprints, weights and gymnastics. Following the completion of his Bachelor of Science (Advanced) from the University of Sydney, Armstrong is undertaking an Honours year at the University of Western Australia’s Spinal Cord Repair Laboratory. He is also a member of the AIS Athlete Advisory Committee and an environmental advocate via Project Planet, an organisation founded by fellow Australian long jumper Lizzie Hedding.
