Angus Armstrong (athletics) achieved top 10 finishes in the menβs pole vault at Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and Gold Coast behind close friend and two-time champion Kurtis Marschall.
A former high jumper, Armstrong became the youngest winner of the national pole vault title in 2015 just after he turned 18. Following the completion of his Bachelor of Science (Advanced) from the University of Sydney, Armstrong moved top Perth to train with the highly acclaimed WA Institute of Sport pole vault program and studied medicine at the University of Notre Dame. He is also a member of the AIS Athlete Advisory Committee and an environmental advocate via Project Planet, an organisation founded by fellow Australian long jumper Lizzie Hedding.

Why did you begin your sport?
I started with high jump at school then my coach suggested I try using a pole to get higher. Now pole vault is my speciality.
What is your most memorable sporting achievement?
First national championship in 2015 where I won gold.
Who is your hero / idol, and why? Have you ever met them?
Anthony Joshua, British boxer who has a good attitude and temperament.
Who has been the most influential person or people in your career and why?
The other competitors in my speciality who are good mentors.
Do you have any hobbies away from your sport?
I like outdoor equipment, especially back packs.
What is your sporting ambition?
Achieving what I set out to do with technique.
