Aran Zalewski
Aran Zalewski (hockey) has featured in the Kookaburras gold medal-winning sides at the Glasgow 2014 and Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. Known to his teammates as ‘Moose’, the West Australian native made his international debut in 2011 and made his Olympic debut at the Rio 2016 Olympics, where the national side lost to New Zealand in the quarter-finals. Zalewski enjoyed his best career year in 2019, serving as Kookaburras captain, he was named the best player of the 2019 FIH Pro League and was nominated for the FIH Player of the Year Award. Zalewski’s pre-match rituals see him always drink coffee before the match and puts his left shoe and shin pad on first. When the national hockey training programs were shut down during COVID, Aran returned home to his parents, Cathy and Wally, at Margaret River for the first time since he left to go to boarding school at Aquinas College in Perth. Aran has a Bachelor of Commerce from Curtin University and works part-time as a senior consultant with Deloitte in Perth.
