Billy McAllister

Billy McAllister (boxing) made his Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham where he suffered a split-decision loss in his opening preliminary bout in the light-heavyweight (80kg) division. Billy originally took boxing classes in the Aussie Rules off-season to improve his fitness but eventually decided to change sports. He won his first state novice title when he was 15. He now trains at the Fortitude Boxing Club in Brisbane under Adam Copland, supported by former Australian-South African cricketer Kepler Wessels and Jarrod Fletcher, who lent him his gold medal from Melbourne 2006 to inspire the Brisbane fighter to achieve his best in Birmingham. A rifleman in the Australian army, Billy loves to cook in his spare time, especially Italian food. Although he cites Kanye West as his favourite music artist, he often relies on AC/DC’s Hell’s Bells to psyche him up before a bout.
