Bob Gardiner
Robert ‘Bob’ Gardiner (athletics) competed for Australia at three Olympics (1964, 1968 and 1972) and the 1970 Edinburgh Commonwealth Games. After finishing 5th in the 50km walk at the Tokyo Olympics in 1964, Gardiner went on to win the silver medal behind teammate Noel Freeman in the 20 mile walk at the Edinburgh Games in 1970. An eight-time Australian champion across various distances, Gardiner set a Commonwealth Track record in 1968, walking 50km in a time of 4:14.17 at Melbourne University.
