Breanna Hargrave

At 39, Breanna Hargrave (cycling) was the oldest member of the cycling team at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games where she competed in four sprint events at London’s Lee Valley VeloPark. Her second Games appearance came eight years after her first in Glasgow where she won two bronze medals as a pilot for Brandie O’Connor in the para track events.

Bree, who grew up in the Adelaide Hills, was a late starter to the sport, taking it up when she was 28 through a talent transfer program run by the Australian Institute of Sport. She previously competed in athletics (heptathlon and high jump) at national level, a career that also included a college scholarship in the US.

She was Australian champion in the 500m time trial in 2017 before switching to endurance events where she won three team pursuit national titles.

Bree juggles her cycling career with her physiotherapy practice in the Adelaide suburb of Norwood where she has worked with the Adelaide Crows, SA Little Athletics and Norwood Football Club. The COVID-19 pandemic impacted her business but the additional time for training proved a boon for her cycling career.
