Brianna Throssell
At her second Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Brianna Throssell (swimming) took home bronze medals in the 100m and 200m butterfly.
West Australian Throssell burst onto the scene after winning seven bronze medals at the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympics. She made her senior Dolphins debut at the 2015 world championships in Kazan, finishing fourth in the 200m butterfly, and was then selected for the Rio Olympics, where she again reached the 200m butterfly final.
After her Commonwealth Games debut on the Gold Coast in 2018 where she claimed gold (4x200m freestyle) and a bronze (100m butterfly), Brianna was part of the 4x200m freestyle team that won gold and broke the world record at the Gwangju 2019 world championships, eclipsing China’s decade-old super-suit era record. She also won gold as a member of the 4x100m freestyle relay and silver in both the women’s and mixed 4x100m medley relay teams.
At her second Olympics in Tokyo, the four-time WA Swimmer of the Year was part of Australia’s gold medal-winning 4x100m medley relay team and also claimed a pair of relay bronze medals and featured in a 200m butterfly final.
Throssell followed coach Mick Palfery from Perth to the Sunshine Coast in late 2021 before joining Dean Boxall’s St Peter’s squad in Brisbane after the Birmingham Games.
Throssell has a bright future ahead of her when she decides to stop swimming as she’s completing a physiotherapy degree from University of Notre Dame in Perth. She has also established online store West Coast Dress Hire for hiring out designer dresses.
