Cassiel Rousseau
Cassiel Rousseau (diving) produced a spectacular near-perfect final dive to snare gold in the men’s 10m individual at his Commonwealth Games debut In Birmingham. He also won bronze In both the 10m synchronised with Domonic Bedggood and 10m mixed synchronised with Emily Boyd. Like many divers, Rousseau was firstly a gymnast. He was inspired to make the switch by his sisters in 2017 and had an immediate impact, winning gold in the 3m springboard and silver in the 1m springboard at the 2018 Junior Nationals. Rosseau was then selected to go to the FINA Junior World Championships but had to withdraw with a back injury. He made his senior debut at the Gwangju 2019 FINA World Championships, finishing 9th in the 10m platform and 5th in the mixed synchronised event. Two years later, he made his Olympic debut in Tokyo where he finished 8th in the 10m. Rousseau has a strong sporting pedigree. His late grandfather was French cyclist Michel Rousseau, who won Olympic track cycling sprint gold in Melbourne in 1956. Rosseau works at CityCave, a recovery centre in Clayfield, while studying for a Bachelor of Psychological Science. He trains in Brisbane under Ady Hinchliffe.
