Claire Colwill
Claire Colwill (hockey) was the sole teenager and youngest member of the Hockeyroos squad at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
Claire grew up in Mackay in north Queensland where she began playing hockey at primary school. She joined the Brisbane Blaze as soon as she turned 16, playing in the side that won the Hockey One league in its inaugural season in 2019. She has also been part of Australia’s junior programs and made her debut for the Australian under-21 team against Japan in Canberra in 2020.
The young defender from Mackay in north Queensland – a city that also produced Cathy Freeman and Susie O’Neill – was named in the Hockeyroos squad for the first time in 2022 after impressing at a number of training camps. She made her senior debut in the Trans-Tasman series against New Zealand in Auckland then helped the Hockeyroos claim bronze at the World Cup 13 days before Australia’s opening pool game at the Commonwealth Games.
Claire is studying Clinical Exercise Physiology at the University of Queensland.
