Damien Delgado
Damien Delgado (lawn bowls) joined Chris Flavel in the B6-B8 men’s pairs at their first Commonwealth Games in Birmingham where the duo won silver in the event’s Games debut. Damien was first picked to represent Queensland at the 2018 Multi-Disability National Championships. He claimed gold in both the singles and pairs at the 2020 Queensland Multi-Disability Championships and at the 2021 Queensland Open Championships he became the first wheelchair disability player to reach an open singles final. He was also runner-up in the singles at the 2021 Multi-Disability National Championships and won the Bowler with a Disability of the Year
Award later in the year. Delgado took up the sport in 2014, five years after losing his leg in a car accident which led him to the rinks at Cabarita Bowls Club. Says Damien: “I was down at the club and they told me I could get a wheelchair that would fit on the green and away I went.” Damien plays for Club Tweed in Tweeds Head and works at the Cabarita Bowling Club, juggling parenting duties with wife Jessica as parents to three young children.
