Desmond Abbott

Desmond ‘Des’ Abbott (hockey) is a member of the Australian Kookaburras gold medal winning field hockey side at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games becoming the first male Aboriginal athlete to represent Australia in field hockey at the Commonwealth Games. Making his international debut for the national side in 2007, Abbott went on to represent the green and gold at the Beijing 2008 Olympics, becoming the first male Aboriginal athlete to represent Australia in field hockey at the Olympics. The Kookaburras went on to win the bronze medal at the Games. Abbott was also a member of Australia’s Champions’ Trophy winning sides in 2008, 2009 and 2010. A prolific scorer, Abbott finished his international career scoring 61 goals in 111 appearances.
