Ebony Gorincu

Ebony Gorincu (weightlifting) finished 6th in the women’s 76kg at her Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham where she was the oldest member of Australia’s weightlifting team aged 32. Ebony was an accomplished sprinter and hurdler at national level before transitioning to bobsleigh when she was 21. She took up lifting weights at Cougars Weightlifting Club in Brisbane to improve her push technique for bobsleigh, but after missing selection for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics she switched her focus to weightlifting. She finished 19th in the 71kg class at the 2021 World Championships in Tashkent before moving up a weight division. Ebony, who works at a small engineering firm doing mechanical drafting, set her personal best of 94kg in the snatch at the Queensland Club Championships in July 2020, and clean & jerk (118kg) and total (209kg) at the Singapore International in February 2022.
