Edgard Coumi

Edgardo (Eddie) Coumi (boxing) was the big man of the Australian boxing team at his Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham where he lost the 92kg semi-final to the eventual gold medallist and was awarded a bronze medal. Coumi’s father, Charlie, has owned the Para Hills Amateur Boxing Club for over 30 years and the keen athlete started training at 16. He soon developed into a strong fighter under his father, as well as coaches Geoff Cowell and Vinney Decristofaro, and his brother and training partner, Phidias. After being a runner-up in the 75kg novice division at the South Australian championships in 2013, Eddie gradually moved up the rankings. The Adelaide born-and-bred boxer beat Daniel Stewart to claim the 81kg division at the 2018 Elite Australian Championships, however, he lost to Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Clay Waterman at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic selection trials in December 2019.
