Gail Neall

Gail Yeo (Neall) (swimming) competed in two editions of the Commonwealth Games, winning silver in 1970 in Edinburgh in the 400m individual medley and bronze in Christchurch in 1974 in the 200m butterfly. Neall was the Olympic champion in Munich in 1972 in the 400m individual medley setting a world record time in the winning swim. Standing at just 160cm, Neall was known as the ‘Mighty Mite’. Neall and Shane Gould went to Turramurra High School on Sydney’s North Shore and both champion swimmers have school sports houses named in their honour. A member of both the Sport Australia Hall of Fame and International Swimming Hall of Fame.
