Georgia Baker

Georgia Baker (cycling) was the standout rider at her Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham in 2022, winning gold medals in the road race, team pursuit and points race. She was just the third female rider after Kathy Watt and Anna Meares to win 3 gold medals at one Games and the second after Watt to win gold on both track and road at the same Games.

It was the highlight of a remarkable year for Baker. Prior to the Games, she scored her first professional road win when she won a stage of Thuringen Ladies Tour riding for Team BikeExchange-Jayco. Following the Games, she won bronze in the mixed team relay at the world road championships in Wollongong then had two 4th-place finishes at the World Track Championships in France. She was rewarded for her efforts in December by being named Tasmanian Athlete of the Year.

Georgia represented her state in junior netball and triathlon but opted for cycling aged 14 after being spotted in a talent search program in 2008. She immediately fell in love with velodrome and won multiple junior world titles before being selected for her Olympic debut in Rio in 2016. There she was a member of the team pursuit squad but focused on her burgeoning road career after the Games. She was a member of the gold medal-winning pursuit team at the 2019 World Track Championships in Poland before competing at her second Olympics in Tokyo.

Georgia was diagnosed with the non-life-threatening heart condition supraventricular tachycardia in 2017 and had surgery in 2021 to fix her abnormal heart rate.
