Gerrard Gosens

Gerrard Gosens OAM (triathlon) was part of Australia’s eight-member Para-triathlon team at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, where he added another chapter to his incredible story – at 52, Gosens became Australia’s oldest competitor in triathlon at the Commonwealth Games where he finished 6th in the PTVI vision impaired event with guide Hayden Armstrong. Congenitally blind from birth and classified as totally blind (PTVI1), Gosens is a three-time Paralympian, competing at Atlanta 1996 in goalball, and Sydney 2000 and Beijing 2008 in athletics. The renowned chocolatier has also climbed Mount Everest, run the 2000km from Cairns to Brisbane five times as well as wooed audiences on Channel 7’s Dancing With The Stars. Gosens encourages others saying: “Every one of us have some sort of obstacle to overcome, instead of letting them get in the way, we should learn to take advantage of any opportunities we come across”. He and wife Heather are parents to son Jordan who has no eyesight problems, while daughter Taylor has inherited his condition and hopes to compete in Para-judo at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
