Harry Cassar

Harry Cassar (judo) will be another Commonwealth Games debutant in Birmingham in the men’s 90kg. Cassar was born and raised in Dromana, a small seaside town on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula and started in judo when he was eight. He worked in construction to help pay for overseas travel and to try and qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Cassar has been a two-time runner up at both Australian under-20 and senior competitions, and after moving up a weight division made his international debut for Australia in the under 90kg at the 2018 world championships in Baku, Azerbaijan. He also claimed three bronze medals in tournaments in Asia in 2018, before snaring a silver at the open event in Taipei the following year. Cassar trains at CombatAus National Performance in Melbourne and works part-time in a gym in Mornington where he loves the local lifestyle.
