Hayley Lewis

Hayley Lewis OAM (swimming) is an 11-time Commonwealth Games medallist who was the sensation of the Auckland 1990 Commonwealth Games winning six medals, five gold and a bronze, as a then 15-year-old. Lewis won the 200m and 400m freestyle double and showing her immense talent won the 200m butterfly and 400m individual medley events. She used the experiences from Auckland to represent Australia at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, coming home with a silver medal for her favoured 800m freestyle, and a bronze for the 400m freestyle. Lewis returned at the Victoria 1994 Commonwealth Games to win a further five medals, including two golds medals, taking her career haul to 11 medals. The swimming legend went on to represent Australia at the Atlanta 1996 Olympics and the Sydney 2000 Olympics when she transferred to open water swimming which was included on the sport program in Sydney. Lewis was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2003, for her services to swimming, both as a competitor and within the community.
