Isaac Cooper (swimming) was selected for his first Commonwealth Games in Birmingham after making the podium in freestyle, backstroke and butterfly events at the 2022 Australian championships, however he withdrew from the team for mental health reasons.

Cooper had a breakout year in 2021, breaking an eight-year-old record in the 17 years 100m backstroke at the Australian Age Championships. He narrowly missed the Olympic qualifying time at the trials a few months later, but selectors picked him for Tokyo where he was the youngest member of the swim team. After making the semi-finals of the 100m in Tokyo (he finished 12th), Cooper secured a bronze medal after a heat swim in the 4x100m mixed medley relay. He made his world championships debut in Budapest in 2022 where he finished 8th in 50m backstroke, 12th in 100m backstroke, 4th in 4x100m medley and won silver in 4x100m medley mixed (heat swim).

Cooper got his start at Fairymead Swimming Club in Bundaberg training under coaches Paul Simms and Scott Hamlet and was the fastest 11-, 12-, 13- and 14-year-old in 50m backstroke in Queensland as he progressed through the age groups.
