Jacinta Beecher

PRINT PAGE

Jacinta Beecher (athletics) was part of the women’s 4x100m relay team that finished fourth at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games but was elevated to bronze a year later when Nigeria was stripped of their win due to a doping violation. It was Australia’s highest placing in the event in 16 years. Jacinta also reached the semi-finals of the individual 200m in Birmingham.

A product of the Queensland underage system, Jacinta won silver in the 4x100m at the Samoa 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games but her journey into the senior ranks was hampered by injury, undergoing plantaris surgery in September 2020, followed by a calf tear in January 2021. Lacing up her spikes for the first time in a year in April 2021, she competed overseas in search of an Olympic qualifying time before returning home without a ticket to Tokyo. However, she burst out of the blocks in 2022, qualifying for Birmingham via a 22.70 sec PB in the 200m which placed her in the top 10 Australians of all time.

Off the track, Beecher is a law student at the Queensland University of Technology, beach goer and avid ‘gymtok’ creator.
