Jacinta Beecher

Jacinta Beecher (athletics) won a silver medal in the 4x100m relay at the Samoa 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games but now the Herston local will look to find similar success at her senior Commonwealth Games debut at Birmingham 2022. A product of the Queensland underage system, Beecher’s journey to senior ranks has been plagued by injury. Undergoing plantaris surgery in September 2020, followed by a calf tear in January 2021, Beecher laced up her spikes for the first time in a year in April 2021 in preparation for the European summer of racing. In search of a Tokyo 2020 qualifying time, Beecher spent May and June competing abroad, before returning home without a ticket to Tokyo. Injury woes behind her, Beecher burst out of the blocks in 2022. Qualifying for Birmingham via a 22.70 PB and win at the Shizuoka International Athletics Meet in May, Beecher will contest the 200m and 4x100m relay at her maiden Commonwealth Games. Off the track, Beecher is a law student, beach goer and avid ‘gymtok’ creator.
