James Bacueti

James Bacueti (Gymnastics), will make his Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham. Newcastle native he got into the sport in 1997, pretty much as soon as he could walk, with his mum enrolling him because he was so energetic. Bacueti grew up in Canberra, training at the Woden Gymnastics Centre, before being selected for the AIS and was named the ACT Sports Star of the Year in 2010. At the 2012 Nationals, he came sixth or better in every event, tying for gold in the Vault, and defended that title in 2013 as well as coming second on the Floor. Bacueti was then selected for the Youth Olympics team and his first senior competition was the 2015 World University Games. Bacueti competed at the 2019 World Championships, where he finished 11th in the Vault and also claimed the Australian title in Vault in 2021. He finished 1st in the Vault at the 2022 Australian Nationals and has competed at four World Cup events in 2022. In 2016, he gained his Advanced Coaching Accreditation and served as an assistant coach for the ACT men’s artistic team at the 2016 Nationals. Bacueti now trains at the National Centre of Excellence in Canberra.
