Jane Saville

Jane Saville (athletics) carried the Australian flag at the opening ceremony of the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. One of Australia’s greatest race walkers, in 1998, Saville won the 10km walk at the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur. Four years later in Manchester she competed in the extended 20km walk event and won a second consecutive gold medal, before again defending her title in Melbourne to win three-in-a-row. In Melbourne, Jane’s younger sister Natalie finished behind her, to claim the silver medal. At the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, Saville was leading the 20km walk when heading into the stadium tunnel for the final stretch she was disqualified.  But Saville bounced back four years later in Athens to win a bronze medal in the 20km walk. Saville ended her career representing Australia at a fourth Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008.
