John Nicholson

John Nicholson (cycling) represented Australia at both the 1970 Edinburgh and 1974 Christchurch Commonwealth Games. Winning gold in the sprint in Edinburgh, a title he defended at Christchurch, Nicholson added a silver medal in the 1km time trial. One of Australia’s greatest cyclists of the time, Nicholson also won a silver medal in the sprint event on the track at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games. Turning professional in 1975, Nicholson went on to win the world title in both 1975 and 1976 in the sprint. John Nicolson was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 1986.
