Josh Simmonds

Josh Simmonds (hockey) was part of the dominant Kookaburras’ team that demolished India 7-0 in the final at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games to come away with a seventh consecutive gold medal.

Josh first picked up a hockey stick in primary school at Yarra Valley Grammar School in Melbourne and began playing in the firsts team in his first year of high school. The promising defender was part of Australia’s 2016 Junior World Cup team as well as an integral member of the Victorian side that won back-to-back Australian Hockey League titles in 2016 and 2017. The Doncaster Hockey Club player made his debut against Argentina at the 2018 Darwin International Hockey Open. Josh joined the national senior squad in mid-2018 following the retirement of four-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist Mark Knowles and made his Olympic debut in Tokyo in 2021 where he was the only Victorian member of the silver-medal winning team.
