Josh Turner

Josh Turner (rugby 7s) opened the scoring for Australia with a try and a goal in the bronze-medal game against New Zealand at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham but it wasn’t enough to hold off the reigning champions from securing a place on the podium.

New Zealand-born Turner made junior representative sides, captained the national under 19s team and played senior rugby for Counties Manukau in the provincial competition before crossing the ditch seeking better playing opportunities in 2016.

After impressing for the Manly Marlins in the Shute Shield and the Sydney Rays in the National Rugby Championship – while working on the Manly Fast Ferry throwing the rope and tying the boat off at the wharf – Turner was called into the Australian sevens program.

He was granted Australian citizenship in 2019 and made his international debut against Scotland at the World Series tournament in Dubai in December. Continued success saw him selected for the Olympic team in Tokyo in 2021, the 2022 Commonwealth Games and he was part of the team that won the Rugby Sevens World Series for the first time in 2021-22.
