Joshua Yong

Joshua Yong (swimming) made his Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham where he reached the final of the 50m and 100m breaststroke.

Josh and younger brother Jayden grew up in Brunei but used to spend their summer school holidays in Melbourne swimming with the Casey TigerSharks where they were coached by Julie-Anne Roberts. Yong moved to Perth to further his career, joining Mick Palfrey at West Coast Swimming Club and first represented Australia at the 2019 World Junior Championships in Budapest, where he competed in all three breaststroke events and both the men’s and mixed medley relays. He followed Palfrey to USC Spartans on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast in 2021 while continuing his engineering studies at the University of Western Australia before returning to Perth to train under former Great Britain coach Ben Higson in early 2022.
