Julian Konle (athletics) had to wait until the second-last day of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games to start his menβs triple jump campaign. The lanky West Australian-born athlete got off to a promising start with a solid first jump of 15.90m. His next two jumps looked impressive, but he succumbed to fouls, narrowly missing the opportunity to be among the top eight and jump another three times.
That performance was the climax of a domestic and international season with multiple podium placings at the Adelaide Track Classic (1st), Sydney Track Classic (3rd), Australian Championships (2nd) and Oceania Championships (1st), as well as the Princeton Elite Invitational (1st) and Oregon Twilight (1st) in the USA. The 16.56m effort at Princeton fell just 10cm short of his 16.66m PB at the Melbourne Track Classic in February 2020.
He was also part of the 67-strong Australian team at his maiden world championships in Budapest in 2023.
Born and raised in Perth, the former Melville Roar Athletics Club athlete trained at the Queensland Academy of Sport in Brisbane under the late Gary Bourne and moved to Sydney in 2023 to train with Andrew Murphy.
