Karri Somerville

Karri Somerville (hockey) was among seven Tokyo 2020 Olympians that made their Commonwealth Games debut for the Hockeyroos in Birmingham.

The Perth-born and bred defender started playing hockey when she was nine and represented Western Australia at several junior national championships. In her final year of high school, Karri was a member of the Australian team that claimed bronze at the 2016 Junior World Cup in Chile. She also played indoor hockey, going to the under-15 and under-16 national titles, the Australian Open championships in 2016 and the Indoor World Cup in Germany in 2018. A torn ACL, followed by a meniscus tear, kept her out for much of 2018-19 before she received her first senior call up to the national squad, making her debut against Argentina in March 2020. She made her Olympic debut at the delayed Tokyo Games in 2021.

Karri graduated from Curtin University with a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy.
