
Kelsey-Lee Barber
Kelsey-Lee Barber (athletics) has compiled an outstanding record in women’s javelin since winning bronze on her international debut at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. She followed up with silver at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in 2018, gold at the Doha 2019 world championships with a monster final-throw victory (66.56m) and bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games (64.56m). In Eugene in 2022 she became the first woman to win back-to-back javelin world titles with a huge third-round throw of 66.91m and just a fortnight later, she produced a winning throw of 64.43 to defend her Commonwealth Games title in Birmingham. She snuck into the final of the Budapest 2023 world championships and eventually placed 7th, however, she was sidelined with injury in the lead-up to the Paris 2024 Olympics and failed to make the final.
Born in South Africa, Kelsey-Lee moved to Australia with her family during the Sydney Olympics in 2000 aged 9 and lived in country Victoria before moving to Canberra in 2007. She married her coach Mike Barber following the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and has a degree in sport coaching and exercise science from the University of Canberra.
