Kyle Swan (athletics) finished sixth in the men’s 10,000m track walk at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, the event’s first appearance on the program. It was part of a successful 2022 season where the Melbourne native placed 34th and helped the Australian team to fourth place at the World Race Walking Team Championships ahead of winning the national 10,000m track title and gaining selection for his world championships and Commonwealth Games debuts.
Kyle began in Little Athletics when he was six after tagging along with his older brother. He enjoyed an impressive junior career for Australia, making his debut at the 2015 World Youth (under 18) Championships as well as a bronze medal in the 10km junior event at the World Race Walking Cup in China and a sixth place at the Under-20 World Championships in Finland in 2018.
Stepping up to the 20km in the senior ranks and coached by Australian racewalking royalty and Delhi 2010 gold medallist Jared Tallent, Kyle made his Olympic debut in 2021, finishing 36th in the stifling conditions in Sapporo. The University of Melbourne science graduate made his second Olympic appearance in Paris where he finished 35th.
