Lawrie Peckham

Lawrence ‘Lawrie’ Peckham (athletics) was one of Australia’s best ever high jumpers. Competing in four Commonwealth Games and three Olympic Games, Peckham won back-to-back gold medals at the 1966 Kingston and 1970 Edinburgh Commonwealth Games, along with a silver medal in 1974 in Christchurch whilst attempting a third consecutive crown. The Victorian was captain of the athletics team at the 1972 Munich Olympics. Winner of ten Australian high jump titles during his career, in 1977, Peckham married 1978 Commonwealth Games 800m champion Judy Canty, both were coached by the legendary Franz Stampfl.
