Liam Adams

Liam Adams (athletics) will represent Australia at his third Commonwealth Games marathon in Birmingham, hoping to improve on his 7th place on the streets of Glasgow in 2014 and 5th on the Gold Coast four years ago. The disappointment of missing qualifying for the London 2012 Olympics in the 10,000m spurred Liam to move up to the marathon where he ran an outstanding 2:14.09 on debut in October 2013 in Melbourne. He qualified for the 2016 Olympics, running 31st in Rio. He ran an Olympic qualifier and PB of 2:10:48 in Japan in March 2020, before ultimately finishing 24th at the delayed Tokyo Games. Nicknamed ‘Sledgehammer’, Liam is an electrician by trade and regularly runs in his iconic tradies’ singlet. He has a Bachelor of exercise science at Victoria University in Melbourne, where he was twice named their Male Athlete of the Year (2008, 2010). Remarkably, he works full time but still runs 200kms per week.
