Lidiia Iakovleva

Lidiia Iakovleva (Rhythmic gymnastics) made her Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham as the youngest member of the 13-strong gymnastics team where she was part of the Australian trio that won silver in the Team Event. She was also 7th in the All-Around and 6th in Hoop. Russian-born Lidiia decided to take up rhythmic gymnastics after it was suggested by her dance teacher. She first trained at the Petrozavodsk Rhythmic Gymnastics Club. After a successful run at the junior events at the Australian Nationals, including winning consecutive All-Around titles from 2016-2018, she was selected to compete at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires. She also competed for Australia at the 2016 Pacific Rim Championships in the US, finishing 5th in the All-Around competition and taking bronze in the Clubs. In 2019, she competed in the Rhythmic World Championships in Baku, achieving a personal best of 17.700 for her Clubs routine, the highest score any individual Australian rhythmic gymnast has received at a world championship or FIG competition under the current Code of Points. Lidiia produced solid form at her Olympic debut in Tokyo in 2020, where she achieved her personal best score of 78.775 and finished in 23rd place.
