Lin Ma

Lin Ma (table tennis) pushed Wales’ Joshua Stacey right to the end of the class 8-10 men’s singles final at his Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham but came up just short in the five-game decider, with the first game taking 48 points to decide. With silver, he became the first Australian male para table tennis player to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games. Ma was born in Mudanjiang, China on Christmas Day in 1989. He was injured after he stuck his right arm though a gap in the fence to pat a bear at a zoo when he was five, losing the limb. He started playing table tennis when he was 13. Ma represented China at three Paralympics (2008, 2012, 2016) – winning four gold and one silver medal – before moving to Melbourne in 2017. He represented Australia for the first time during the 2019 ITTF World Tour and claimed silver in both the men’s singles and teams’ events (class 9-10) at his fourth Paralympics in Tokyo as part of Australia’s most successful table tennis team at the Games.
