Lisa Curry AO MBE

Lisa Curry (swimming) carried the Australian flag at the opening ceremony of the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland. Competing in three Commonwealth Games and winning ten medals, including seven gold across the Edmonton 1978, Brisbane 1982 and Auckland 1990 Games, Curry is one of the best swimmers of her time. Making her debut in Edmonton in 1978 as a member of the silver medal winning 4x100m freestyle relay team, Curry was a star of the 1982 Games in Brisbane winning three individual gold medals. Taking a brief retirement after the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, Curry made a comeback for the 1990 Auckland Commonwealth Games, where she once again dominated the pool, winning four gold, including two individual and two relay wins. Representing Australia in three Olympic Games at Moscow (1980), Los Angeles (1984) and Barcelona (1992), Curry was chair of the Australia Day Council from 2000 to 2008.
